Chanel N°5 EDP is quite popular among women. It came out in 1921 and made its way to millions of perfume shelves in no time. Even after over 100 years, many women regard it as the ‘Celebrity of Perfumes’. However, this fame had a price. Many wholesalers began to create fake versions of Chanel N5 EDP. As this one’s my personal favorite, I don’t want anyone to get a fake one for themselves. Therefore, I planned to share some differences I could spot in Original Vs Fake Chanel N5 EDP.
If you wish to know more about Chanel N5 EDP, give a glance at my detailed review in my older post, Chanel N5-Most Iconic Fragrance
The moment you try to purchase a product online or physically, different sellers come up with different offers. They give you the impression of selling you the original item, but some try to fool you.
As for the over-clever sellers, they are about to lose their won battle with what I will uncover in this post.
Differences between Original Vs Fake Chanel N5 EDP
Here are some key differences one can spot between an original and counterfeit version of Chanel N5 EDP.
FOCUS MORE on the aspects of the original bottle that’s been discussed. It will help you to distinguish real Chanel N5 EDP from almost any duplicate other than the one used as a reference for this article.
Design Difference of Perfume Box of Original vs Fake Chanel N5 Perfume
Perfume Box gives you enough insight for differentiating an original from a fake one. The picture below clearly indicates what the box design for a real Chanel N5 EDP looks like. If Chanel officially changes its box design in the future, I will update you.
Fake versions may differ in terms of box colors, alignment, text font, symbols, and even text size.
For example, this fake version has ivory as the base color. Moreover, the original version, in contrast, has a pure white box. The shiny rectangle border and text are in golden Chanel N5 copy, whereas, the original one has all shiny contents ( borders, text, etc.) in silver.
Similarly, if you flip to the top of the box, you will see how the fake version has Chanel’s symbol on top. On the other hand, Original N5 EDP has no symbol on the box’s top.
In addition to text size or font, text on fake perfumes might have variations from the original alignment as well. See the images below and you will notice this difference in the text on the back of both perfumes.
Barcode
Barcode comparison is the easiest to spot the difference between an Original and a Fake Chanel N5 EDP.
In the original version, you will find the barcode right at the backside and also at the bottom of the unopened perfume box. For counterfeited versions, its location may vary as in this case.
Notice the thickness of white and black lines, along with the number written under the barcode on both versions. This, along with the thickness of bars will vary in fake versions.
Batch Code of Chanel N5
The batch code location on Chanel N5 perfume is present at the bottom backside of the bottle and also on the back side of the box of perfume.
The embossed Batch Code and barcode as in the case of all Chanel Perfumes are written underneath the box and match the code etched on the perfume bottle as well.
These pieces of information are missing from the fake Chanel N5 perfume and differ it from the original one.
Underneath Differences of Bottle on Original vs Fake Chanel N5 EDP Perfume
The picture is shown for reference to discover the differences between the underneath side of the bottle of the original vs the fake Chanel N5 perfume.
Remember that the difference here is the clarity in the etched writing on the original vs fake Chanel N5 perfume.
The same differences we observed while reviewing original vs fake Bleu De Chanel.
Perfume Color of original vs Fake Chanel N5
See if the shop owner allows you to look at the perfume bottle. If not, you can ask him for a tester. Looking at the perfume bottle, you will be able to spot even more differences.
Original Chanel N5 EDP has a golden-orange hue. On the other hand, the fake ones have slightly different colors.
Cap Design
This one will be a little tricky to spot. However, a close glance at the original version will help you distinguish it from fake ones.
In the picture, the white Chanel ring on the underside of the bottle is in continuity with the original one, whereas the fake one is not in continuity, and instead paste mark is clearly visual.

Nozzles differences
Most of the time counterfeited versions show a clear difference in the nozzle design. Some are bigger or smaller, while some just have minor color differences. See how the original nozzle of Chanel N5 EDP differs from the fake one.
Also, don’t forget to remember the appearance of the real nozzle. Subsequently, you will be able to spot anyone trying to sell you a duplicate.
Moreover, try spraying a few spritzes from the perfume you are about to purchase. In original versions, the nozzle function should be smooth.
Finishing
Although it’s quite obvious, I did not want to miss this fact from my blogpost.
So, here’s the thing.
Chanel always makes sure that its products have a great overall finish. Therefore, if you notice that the perfume you’re being sold has a cheap finish, stop right there!
Parting Thoughts
Buying their favorite scents for the first time is often a memorable moment for everyone. Therefore, I don’t want anyone’s moment to get ruined by accidentally buying a counterfeit. These were 9 differences I could spot between Original Vs Fake Chanel N5 EDP.
