If you are having a bad day, know how thousands of people bought counterfeit luxury perfumes today without even realizing it. But don’t worry because you read Scentholic, which significantly reduces your chances of getting scammed. I recently reviewed Baccarat Rouge 540 EDP and thought of writing a detailed guide on Original vs. Fake Baccarat Rouge 540 EDP.

Original vs. Fake Baccarat Rouge 540

According to Stanpa, the Spanish perfume and luxury industry loses 16 percent of its sales each year due to counterfeits in the market. This means that many people fall victim to purchasing fake items that contain potentially harmful ingredients. Baccarat Rouge 540 is pretty expensive, and no one wants to be fooled into paying around 300 dollars for a 70 ml bottle and later find it out to be fake.

Here are some key things you can observe to save yourself from this scam.

Weight

We started our test by weighing the original and fake 70 ml bottles of this MFK scent. The original boxed perfume weighed 471 grams. On the other hand, the fake scent weighed 445 grams. A sad difference of 26 grams!

You can also weigh your boxed perfume, which should weigh approximately 471 grams. An original bottle’s weight should not deviate from this more than 2 to 3 grams.

Cellophane and Folding

The next thing to check is the cellophane and folding of your perfume bottle. I noticed that the cellophane paper wrapping the original Baccarat Rouge 540 was absolutely transparent. The fake bottle’s cellophane wrap had a slight bluish tint.

Secondly, the original bottle wrapping was folded perfectly. The fake one was not wrapped badly, either. However, there was some unevenness. In addition, you can see in the image below how the fake bottle had a zipped effect on one side.

Box

The box holds the key to identifying fake and real Baccarat Rouge 540. You just need to be a close observer. I noticed the differences below in the fake vs. real Baccarat Rouge box:

  • The bottle size (70 ml) was given on the face of the box towards the bottom. However, in the original one, it was on the left side. In the fake bottle, it was a little centered.
  • The letters on the real box gave a slightly embossing feel. On the contrary, the letters printed on the fake bottle were flat.
  • Both original and fake had chandeliers printed on the side.
  • The location of batch codes was different for the original and fake perfumes.

Booklet

Next, as I unpacked to compare the bottles, I found another major difference in the fake and real Baccarat Rouge 540 EDP. The original perfume box had a small booklet, but the fake one did not.

Perfume Bottles

To my surprise, the manufacturers of the counterfeit perfume had made it so obvious that the bottle was fake. The original bottle was much clearer and transparent. The fake one had a golden tint. Plus, the sticker on the fake one had a very crappy font.

the batch code is clearly written on bottom of the bottle

There was also a clear color difference in the liquid/perfume inside. The fake bottle contained a more golden perfume.

Caps and Atomizers

Both the caps were golden in color. However, the difference between the two was still dominant. Overall, you can almost immediately observe that the fake cap bottle has a plastic-like feel, and the real one is metallic. The real cap perfectly mirrors the image, whereas the fake one is a bit fuzzy. The inside of the cap has the logo. A real cap’s internal logo would match the one on the top.

I agree that the manufacturer of the fake perfume had done a pretty good job of making the atomizers. However, as soon as I removed them, the tubes looked starkly different.

Scent Test

The Scent Test left me to tears because the fake perfume smelled like Amoxel. The original one had a luxurious, amber, and woody floral smell.
