Acqua Di Gio Profumo was on my bucket list since it came out in 2015. It created much hype in no time. Some called it as best marine note perfume and others as “The Summer King”. I came across this perfume during a wedding that i was attending. A head turner for me and once the friend told me as to what his perfume is. I couldn’t resist my first buying.

Ever since then Acqua Di Gio has to be on my shelf all the time. I have used this perfume enough to know the reiterations, the longevity, sillage and its effects on others during the summer days, weather outside, or in the office. Acqua Di Gio will keep you covered for nearly all the occasions.

The oceanic cool opening coupled with hint of Bergamot and turning into minty in second phase with a smokey and earthy dry down. I just love this perfume which is versatile and suited for all the occasions. A perfume that can be worn out by all age bracket people.

Let the review of ADG Profumo begin.

Summary Of Acqua Di Gio Profumo:

For this review, we’ll check out the notes of the Acqua Di Gio Profumo because a perfume review would be incomplete without it, the looks, packaging, and aesthetic appeal, and how the perfume actually smells. To top that off, we’ll also see how the opening is compared to how it is when it dries down, projection, longevity, and, of course, whether the pros outweigh the cons or not!

Much like how the name suggests, the Acqua Di Gio Profumo is an aromatic and aquatic scent that is refreshing yet tends to leave an impression which is probably one of its major attractions!

  • Perfect aromatic and aquatic fragrance for men
  • Premium quality perfume
  • Fresh, top notes combined with middle floral notes along with rounding base notes
  • Fresh and masculine scent
  • Elegant and deep
  • Captivating fragrance that leaves an impression

Let’s move on to the main notes to see what makes the Acqua Di Gio Profumo so iconic!

Acqua Di Gio Profumo Notes

The top notes in the Acqua Di Gio Profumo include sea notes and bergamot.

Rosemary, sage, and geranuim are used as middle notes. This is particularly great as they go wonderfully well with the top notes!

The base notes consist of incense and patchouli, which make it a well-rounded perfume, perfect for all occasions!

Bonus: Here are the differences between an authentic vs a counterfeit ADG Profumo, that you must know

Bottle And Box Presentation

The bottle and packaging radiate elegance! The black bottle has a matt finish and adds to the beauty of your dresser and value to your fragrance collection. The Acqua Di Gio Profumo is a staple for any man.

The presentation is quite simple, nothing too flashy, and comes in a translucent, almost opaque black flask. The bottle nozzle is capped with a magnetic top that matches the rest of the bottle that completes the look.

To top it off, the bottle is branded on the front in silver metallic ink that screams elegance. The glass is thick and weighs a comfortable amount which makes it seem more like it holds value, and it’s just not any other perfume in a cheap light bottle.

You can check the authenticity of ADG Profumo by matching the batch code on box and back of bottle.

How Does Acqua Di Gio Profumo Smell Like:

Sure, knowing in depth about the notes and accords of a perfume is great, but it is better to know what you’re signing up for when getting your hands on a new perfume. To be cryptic and relatively subjective, I’d describe the fragrance as refreshing yet has an element of mystery to it!

Acqua Di Gio Perfume in my hand

Considering how refreshing the perfume is, it’s likely to be admirable by the majority of people and caters to a much wider audience compared to other well-known perfumes. The reason is that it’s not as strong or intimidating as the rest of its companions. It’s soft, refreshing, and masculine, which is the perfect blend if you ask me.

You can easily notice the oceanic aquatic scent making it perfect for summers or warmer coastal climates, as it complements its surroundings rather than working against them.

Acqua Di Gio Profumo is on top of the list of my Best Summer Perfumes for Men, and that shows my love for this perfume from the house of Armani.

The Opening Of Acqua Di Gio Profumo – Elegant And Powerful:

ADG Profumo starts off with a breezy sea and bergamot scent that’s so refreshing and subtle yet has the potential to last long and leave an impression. Not only do you notice the refreshing aquatic, oceanic scent, but you can notice an added element of citric goodness owing to the bergamot note!

The opening lasts around one to one and a half hours and would grab compliments. Another designer house perfume that i love for summers is Dior Sauvage EDT. Do check my comparison of Sauvage EDT, vs EDP vs Parfum adn Elixir to know what are the differences.

Heart Notes – The Refreshing Breeze You Need In Life:

The heart notes, in my opinion, are what truly give the perfume its oomph.

It’s a minty phase due to combining notes of Rosemary, sage, and geranuim. This phase is little old school and more suited for mature audience but its not very loud. Very shortly the mint phase is toned to sweet and starts getting little smokey as incense starts coming in. Turning this phase to sweet smokey accord.

Base Notes Of Acqua Di Gio Profumo – Masculinity That Emits Elegance:

Sure, the heart notes are amazing, but what’s better are the base notes! The base notes are what make the perfume stand out from the crowd.

If you ask me then i am in awe of ADG Profumo because how mature is the dry down phase. Minty and smokey initially and then mint leaves and earthy accord due to patchouli sticks with incense turns ADG Profumo to more mature and attractive. It does not get overwhelmed and remain very soft and make it a perfect summer dry-down perfume.

I do not know why i am a huge fan of patchouli accord. And one perfume that outshines ADG Profumo in dry down phase is Dior Eau Sauvage. But then that’s very old school perfume and i am no young either.

Projection And Longevity:

I’d give the projection and longevity of the perfume a perfect ten on ten but let me tell you exactly why. A good 3-5 sprays are enough to keep you smelling fresh throughout the day and work perfectly for about 7-8 hours without completely dying out.

To be accurate, it should leave at least a 4-6 feet trail behind you. The projection is pretty great. But you have to remember to wear it according to how well it works for you and your preference.

3-5 pumps are perfect for me, but I vividly remember my colleague tends to give it 7-8 pumps which to me seems a bit much, but he’s perfectly happy with it, so to each their own!

Dress And Occasions:

The Acqua Di Gio Profumo is an all-season and all-occasion staple, but if we must get into the gory details, the Acqua Di Gio Profumo works great in formal attire on special occasions and events!

It is perfect for spring and summer, and while it works for winter as well, many prefer other warmer scents for the winter times rather than something that’s cool and aquatic.

The nights are when the Acqua Di Gio Profumo thrives as it is already quite masculine, so it makes you feel relatively more classy and elegant on top of the added masculinity.

What’s better than a well-rounded perfume? One that you can wear anywhere! The Acqua Di Gio Profumo is a great perfume all year round but particularly amazing for summer and spring!

The perfume radiates refreshing masculine energy making it perfect for formal events or special occasions. The main accords keep you feeling classy throughout the time you wear them, which is a huge perk in itself!

Pros And Cons – Acqua Di Gio Profumo:

Pros:

  • Great for all occasions
  • Very elegant yet masculine
  • Has a classic, timeless fragrance
  • A classic and offers great value for money

Cons:

  • No newer looks or bottles
  • Many consider some of the notes off-putting
  • Not for people that don’t like aquatic fragrances

Parting Thoughts On Acqua Di Gio Profumo Review:

As an endnote, I’d like to mention that, like all other perfumes, it’s all about preference. If you’re into masculine aquatic energy, then the Acqua Di Gio Profumo is perfect for you!

It gives you a great fragrance without being too overpowering, so if you’re the type of person that chooses subtle over flashy, then you have to get your hands on the Acqua Di Gio Profumo.
